The Little Theater On The Square

The nonprofit Little Theatre On The Square offers musicals, plays, and extremely popular children's theater productions (reserve your tickets in advance, as the children's shows do sell out!) from June through August, with occasional performances in other seasons.
Founded by Guy S. Little, Jr., The Little Theatre On The Square first raised its curtain in 1957 for a performance of Brigadoon. Mr. Little ran the theatre as a commercial venture through 1978. During that time more than 175 famous starts performed on its stage including Mickey Rooney, Alan Alda, Anna Miller, Don Ameche, Betty Grable, John Carradine, Leonard Nimoy, and Forrest Tucker.
In 1981, The Little Theatre On The Square began operating as a not-for-profit corporation, governed by a Board of Trustees who represent its regional market area in Central Illinois after Mr. Little moved on to pursue other ventures. Since 1981, The Little Theatre On The Square has played to well over 850,000 admissions, including over 160,000 admissions to the Theatre For Young Audiences series.
As the only Actors’ Equity Association (the labor union that represents actors and stage managers in the United States) affiliated theatre between Chicago and St. Louis, The Little Theatre On The Square draws professionals from across the country to perform on its stage.
