Living In Sullivan

"Boats, Buggies & Broadway," Sullivan serves as the county seat of Moultrie County and is home to The Little Theatre On the Square, the only Equity (professional) theatre located between Chicago and St. Louis. In addition, the city serves as the north gateway to Lake Shelbyville, and also marks the west edge of the area’s large Amish settlement.

Abraham Lincoln traversed the county as a circuit riding lawyer and tried many cases in one of the county’s first courthouses. The present courthouse, the county’s third, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Shopping can be found in Sullivan at several unique shops throughout the community that offer a variety of items including hand crafted furniture, gift items, jewelry, handbags, women's boutique clothing, floral, and home decor. In addition to these shops are a plethora of other shopping experiences throughout town. From clothing to groceries, hunting and fishing supplies to antiques... you will be able to find what you need.

Sullivan also is home to two large parks. Wyman Park located on the northern end of town boasts two baseball diamonds, softball fields, tennis courts and playground areas, frisbee golf course, sand volleyball, numerous pavilions and a lake stocked each spring with rainbow trout. Tabor Park is located just across Worth Street from Wyman Park, full of songbirds and wildlife, has beautiful walking trails, Asa Creek meanders through the park, and prairie plantings will delight. So many areas for a picnics either in the pavilion or if you choose a more traditional seat in the grass.

The community boasts three medical facilities offering a variety of services from each of the hospitals in the area.

Unique to Sullivan the Sullivan Civic Center with indoor Olympic size pool, gym, exercise facilities and many other amenities not always associated with small town living.
